<b><u>Character Information</b></u>

<b>Character Name</b>: Captain Jan Templar

<b>Fandom</b>: Killzone

<b>Character History</b>:

Jan was born and raised on Vekta in the year 2329. His parents were barely able to raise him right since his mother died of childbirth but his father, Dirk Templar was a ISA (Interplanetary Strategic Alliance) soldier and raised Jan on his own but when he went off the war himself, he died in the first Vektan War. He left Jan to a close family friend and commanding officer of Dirk’s regiment named Bradley Vaughton.  Vaughton took over Jan’s care training him all he knew. The man taught him everything about the ISA and military training.

From observing Jan’s willing to catch on things quickly, Vaughton enrolled Jan in the ISA academy pretty quickly. Jan proved Bradley right and became one of the quickest ISA to rank up to Captain due to his extraordinary skills. He was performing at the same range as Vets twice his age and rank.

<br>

He joined the Rapid Reaction Force, growing to become a captain in their ranks. Templar meets Luger during a training exercise and quickly grows close toward her but Luger pushes away from him every time he tries to get close. Jan and Luger had a relationship in the past. Jan didn’t want Luger to get killed in the war while Luger saw Jan thought she was defenseless, so she broke off the relationship after she joined the Shadow Marshall.

<br>

<br>

Jan was a target of an assassination attempt by Helghast sympathizers. But the attempt was quickly stopped by Luger herself.

During the Helghast attack on Vetka, Jan, Luger and Rico are sent to the SD Platform to try to reactivate it, however General Vaughton needs the security keys to reactivate the SD Platform but they face a whole lot of challenges to get there, they run into a Hacker that is half Vektan and Half Helghast named Gregor Hakha. The team fights through obstacles and betrayals by a highly ranked General named General Adams.

The key never arrives but there’s more fights between the Helghasts and ISA as they push forward against the Helghast. General Adams kills General Vaughton trying to get at the security keys but Gregor is able to hack General Adam’s personal computer and prevent anything else from being lost.

The Earth fleet starts coming and destroys the platform and the whole crew of ISA receives the silver sun for the honor but Jan lost the man he called “father”.

Jan’s adoptive father pretty much shaped him and who he was since he was around for most of his life. General Vaughton took him under his wing as his adoptive “son” as Jan looked up to the man for most of his life. Not only did Jan grow to respect and love the man he called “father”. Jan had a father figure that replaced the hole in his life. Being under so much pressure to walk in his father’s footsteps as a ISA soldier, he was expected to act a certain way or conform under pressure on Vekta. Being a new found leader under one of the highest ranked generals in the ISA fleet elevated Jan’s status as a soldier and opened many doors for him. However, he was used as an example for other ISA soldiers to follow as as a “poster boy” for Vekta to enter war with the Helghasts.

Since Jan has a bigger part in deciding what happens in the war with the ISA, he knows what is going on with Vaughton most times. Jan takes things extremely personally when one of the bigger generals in the ISA fleet decides to turn tail and run away and turn traitor to the Helghast named General Adams.

In canon, Jan is seen very upset at the very mention of his adoptive “father” killed in cold blood by General Adams. Instead of doing the right thing, Jan decides to follow his heart instead of his head by deciding to focus on General Adams instead of the mission at hand. This proves costly as one of the ISA’s leading nuclear ships Red Dust is lost to the Helghast.

Please summarize your character's involvement in the series.  This does not have to be every little event so much as an overview, but it should give a clear idea of the story and the character's involvement in it so as to be understood even from a canon-blind perspective.

<b>Character Personality</b>: Please be <i>as detailed as possible</i> so that we have a good picture of the character. What makes this character tick? What are their strengths and weaknesses? Minimum three paragraphs.

One thing you need to know about Jan is that he is as human as a solider gets, no matter what ranking he or she is, every human is afraid of death. From a young age, Jan is raised on the Planet Vekta, a very nice Earth-like planet. However, outside the planet, things weren’t exactly calm. Helghan Mining company split in two divisions after they found two planets. One side of the humans didn’t like each other, so one group decided to colonize on Vekta, Jan’s home planet and the ISA’s home planet. The others weren’t so lucky, named Helghast. They became cold and dirty mutated humans wearing breathing masks. The war had been going on for many years and no side showed signs of winning.

Jan grew up in the midst of a never ending war between the ISA and Earth fleet and the Helghast planets. In Jan’s family, he was raised by his mother for a short time. After his mother’s death, the child’s father grew cold, and sad but he too raised Jan to be a soldier heading toward the ISA. Being logically oriented, Jan was a on his feet thinker and could think of solutions to problems when he was not angered.

At the peak of his life, Jan entered the Rapid Reaction force and met a woman that would shape his life both external and internal.

Her name was Luger. Before she entered the academy, she was likeable and easy to get along with. However, as Luger got bolder, Jan began to feel jealous of her and her abilities. Jan became afraid he would lose the protector role in the relationship, Luger found her voice and walked away. On the outside, Jan became a cold and sarcastic man, using bitter jokes in front of Luger to try to insult her indirectly for her leaving him.

Inside, Jan felt hurt and betrayed. He vowed to himself to never love again.

Not only did Luger and General Vaughton shape his life, another big part of his life is his ISA team he goes on missions with.

One by one each team member seemed to grow attached to Jan in their own ways:

Rico was a solider Jan worked with on the planet of Vekta and he was a fighter and hard to get along with. But Rico and Jan got along well as a team. At first, their team was a little rocky and Jan had to yell at Rico a lot, but off the battlefield, Jan trusted Rico with his life and he knew he could do his job well. Jan liked Rico so much that he made him leader of the Alpha squad when he was promoted to Fleet Commander.

Jan held a air of respect for Luger, who turned cold and bitter but he kept his distance at times. He and Luger learned to work together as a team with Rico without fighting each other. Luger kept the team together at the worst of times.

Gregor was a half Helghast and Vektan. Rico hated his guts for a while and Jan would prevent Rico from attacking Gregor. However, Rico and Gregor finally started to see eye to eye after Gregor got hurt on the battlefield later.

What Jan expected in his teammates, he expected from his friends and allies.

<b><u>Samples</u></b>

TDM posts, links, and examples for posts from other communities are not accepted.

<b>Network</b>: Your network sample entry should be made as if your character were posting to a public network, such as Dreamwidth. <u>It does <i>not</i> have to be their first post (ie, "OMG WHERE AM I?!")</u>, but it <i>does</i> have to show that the character is perfectly aware of the fact that this is something that other people are likely to see. Please avoid excessive use of descriptions in [action tags] here, as one would get in video posts - we're looking for your character's voice, the one they use for talking to others. Save the internal monologues for the third person sample.

This is ISA Captain Jan Templar here.

I’m here from the far future

…. No I’m not here to warn you of some upcoming threat.

Stay stay out there, citizens of Nautilus.

[The man can only watch the camera as he stands straight and proud and salutes before shutting off the camera]

<b>Third Person</b>: 300 word minimum. This is the place to show your character's inner thoughts within the setting. Give us a nice third person narrative of your character doing something, plus how they feel about it. This doesn't have to be blatant "<i>this is what my character is thinking, designated by italics!</i>" but should rather show your character's self via their actions and interactions with their environment.

Jan rubs his eyes as he tries to adjust to the bright and sunny environment of wherever he was. He held the back of his head as he tried to readjust to the sunlight shining in his face “Ugh.. where am I?”

Something was wrong…

..GENERAL!”

He was pacing, he wasn’t on the SD Platform, he had tried to contact his team using anything he had on hand and he sure wasn’t on Vekta again..

Then where the hell was he?

He took a moment to try and calm himself down, first he had to figure out where “here” was.

He eyed the environment to find any landmarks to see if he can find clues.

His voice echoed “Hello?”

No war..

No Vekta..

No Helghast…

And his team was MIA.

Sure, this place sure looked like Earth or even Vekta but there wasn’t anyone he knew here.  His eyes scanned the location looking for a general area to set up to look for a area to relax.

Either he had to find something to eat or find somewhere to rest for the night.

Hopefully he would find it soon.

Carefully leaning against a tree, he looked up. He had to determine what would happen next to determine his next move.

He prefered Rico’s voice to the looming quietness right now. Jan had to gently smirk at mentioning Rico’s name..

Even though he wanted to smack him upside the head in private, it was better that they were friends and not enemies.

Memories began to crowd Jan’s head as he blinked.

“Jan.. are you alright?”

“Jan"?

“...”

“Don’t mind me..”

Jan softly found himself wanting to sleep somewhere but he would find a place worth staying if he kept moving in the first place. During the night, and the chirping of crickets, he managed to find a house open and he pulled himself toward a wall and fell asleep for the night.

Character History:

The ISA and Helghast have been at war for a long time. The ISA and Earth work together in an alliance to defeat the Helghast threat. The ISA live on Vekta and the Helghast are forced to live on Helghan.

Jan comes from a planet almost similar to Earth in a way called Vekta. He was born to his Vektan mother and father in 2329. Nobody exactly knows what happened to Jan’s mother but she died at a young age so Jan’s father, Dirk took over guardianship of Jan as a kid. His father was a ISA (Interplanetary Strategic Alliance) soldier so he was gone a lot while trying to raise Jan but once again, Dirk died in the first Vektan War.

Jan became an orphan until the commander of Dirk’s regiment and family friend Bradley Vaughton decided to adopt Jan as his own “son” becoming a father figure to the kid. Taking a big interest in Jan, he took on the role Jan’s father was trying to teach Jan how to be: A ISA soldier.

During that time, Vaughton taught Jan all he knew about the ISA and military training, also both of them developed a close “father-son” relationship. Jan would do a lot for Vaughton and vise versa. Jan surprised everyone by growing to be the best in his class outmatching Vets twice his age.

Becoming a workaholic, Jan started to do a lot of things straight by the book except when others start slacking off. He hates when people start to slack off since he worked so hard to get where he was over time. Over time, his exceptional skills placed him into the Rapid Reaction Force, a top ranking war academy on Vekta where he met the love of his life: Luger. There was evidence that there was a relationship forming between Jan and Luger. More of a love/hate relationship.

Luger was in the same academy as him but decided to go down a completely different path than him called the Shadow Marshalls. Jan felt a love for Luger but had a protective complex where he didn’t want to lose her in wartime but Luger didn’t want that so she broke up with Jan, and become a Shadow Marshall, a top spy program on Vekta.

As Jan and Luger are forced to work together in the future as a shaky kind of relationship, Luger still saves Jan’s life from an assassination attempt. Jan still tries to make friends with Luger but only talking.

Jan’s sense of duty and justice can bleed into what he does and sometimes makes him land on his own sword, being willing to die for a cause. Some may think he’s even too naive for his own good but he is known as a Vektan hero and a lot of men respect him for what he does.

Jan’s mission was to deliver the keys to General Vaughton so that they could restart the SD platform considering there was Helghast problems around the area. As Jan starts his mission, Luger joins him as they both reluctantly get along to get the mission done. During a ambush by the Helghast, another man joins the team named Rico who shoots first and asks questions later. The man takes out the Helghast blocking them and Jan, Luger and Rico are sent on a mission to find the spy who is half Helghast, Half Vektan named Gregor Hakca.

Gregor has some interesting information that can be useful to the ISA so Jan and the others take it to the SD Platform only to find out General Adams, a high ranking general in the ISA betrayed the ISA and General Vaughton trying to give the security keys to the SD Platform to the Helghast leaders.

After General Vaughton is shot by General Adams, Jan has instant regrets he wasn’t there and rushes to kill the man responsible for the killing.

The others try to focus Jan on the mission but he decides differently going to kill adams with the others.

After countering adams and letting the ship crush adams, Jan and the others are able to activate the SD Platform and the Earth Fleet is able to get into Vekta to help with the war.

Abilities/Special Powers: List all the special types of non-normal things your character do. IE: The different powers of the Nobodies from KH, or Hiro Nakamura's ability to teleport and go into time.

He is a ISA Captain- He is a high ranked soldier of the ISA who commands a group of soldiers on the battlefield and will fight for his men if it puts him at risk.

Third-Person Sample: Minimum of three paragraphs, introspective piece, written in prose. We’re judging your grasp on the character and how you log with them;. We would prefer if this was not a simple re-telling of canon events, this way we can see how you handle the character's actions.

Jan was out on the battlefield with his team as he knew there was going to be several fights between his team. (More likely Rico and Hacka). Luger had tried to keep them from getting on each other as much as Jan did but at least they did stop fighting.

Jan had frowned even at his friend and teammate Rico for almost killing a critical part of their mission that day: Gregor Hakca.

Rico grabbed ahold of Gregor and Jan had to warn Rico several times to take door duty as he had to separate the two of them so they could both breath.

After finally forcing themselves to work together, Rico did a favor for Gregor and they both got to know each other better for once.

Gregor could get them into Adam’s personal computer which was preventing the security keys from working on the SD Platform.

Jan was slightly worried and relieved that he had gotten into the computer.

But Gregor had revealed awful news: that Jan’s “godfather” was dead. General Adams had shot him.

Jan was completely angered and took his eyes off the mission to go fight Adams and kill him for what he had done. His team followed him to take down the Helghast and Adams in general. Even though his team had won, Jan thought everything was worthless since they had lost a very important man to Jan.

They had done it, they had managed to recover some things but they had lost the ship Red Dust in the process but they still had Red Sun.

Jan and his team received a very high honor of the Silver sun for doing what most other ISA couldn’t do.

At this time, Jan became promoted to a Colonel and Rico was able to tackle a new mission and take over his own squad of ISA soldiers.

Jan took over the Red Sun with Evelyn Button and proceeded to protect the security keys with his very life.

First-Person Sample: Show us that you can portray the character’s voice in a network post. Minimum of five sentences.

… Hello [ Communicator shows a man looking down at some papers, appearing to be looking for something]

Hm? Oh.. you wanted to ask me something? [Jan looks up to eye the camera and clears his throat]

What exactly is the ISA you say? [ Jan begins to talk military about the ISA and everything about it except for secrets]
